Lesedi Kapinga’s Pirates future uncertain as transfer deadline looms

Lesedi Kapinga’s future at Orlando Pirates hangs precariously as the transfer window draws to a close.

The talented midfielder, once seen as a promising addition to the Buccaneers’ ranks, has found himself on the fringes of the squad under coach Jose Riveiro.

With fierce competition from the likes of Patrick Maswanganyi, Karim Kimvuidi, and Kabelo Dlamini in midfield, Kapinga has struggled to secure consistent playing time. This lack of action has reportedly left both the player and the club seeking a resolution before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Sources close to the team suggest that Pirates are actively exploring options for Kapinga, with a loan move appearing most likely.

The player himself is reportedly keen for a change of scenery, hoping to reignite a career that has stalled since his move from Black Leopards to Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kapinga’s arrival at Pirates was met with optimism as he sought a fresh start after limited opportunities at Sundowns. However, the change of environment has not yielded the desired results. During his season at the Buccaneers, Kapinga made just two starts and 11 substitute appearances across all competitions, highlighting his marginalised role.

LESEDI KAPINGA’S FUTURE TO BE DECIDED THIS WEEK

His time at Mamelodi Sundowns followed a similar pattern, with only nine starts in 39 appearances over three seasons. Despite contributing four goals and seven assists during his time at Chloorkop, Kapinga remained on the periphery of the star-studded squad.

It was at Leopards where the 29-year-old enjoyed his most productive spell, featuring in 51 games and notching seven goals and eight assists.

With time running out in the transfer window, both Kapinga and Orlando Pirates face a crucial decision. A loan move could offer the midfielder the opportunity to showcase his talents and rebuild his confidence while allowing the Buccaneers to assess his future potential.

The coming days will determine whether Kapinga remains at Orlando or embarks on a new chapter in his career.

AmaZulu FC, Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United are some of the clubs that have previously shown interest in the talented midfielder.

The transfer window is set to close on September 20.
