Former PSL top scorer Moeketsi Sekola resurfaces at Free State side
Veteran forward Moeketsi Sekola has resurfaced at a Free State side following his departure from Venda FC before the start of the 2024/25 Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign.
Sekola joined the Vhembe-based club in July 2023. In the last term, he featured in 18 games for Venda FC but struggled to find the back of the net in those 18 outings, which might have led to his departure from the team.
The 35-year-old was in the books of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] in the SA football second-tier a season before joining Venda FC, when TTM was relegated from the National First Division.
SEKOLA SPOTTED AT ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE SIDE
Sekola was spotted at SAFA Free State ABC Motsepe League club Mangaung Unite, who failed to gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship at this year’s SA third-tier national playoffs held in Upington, Northern Cape.
The experienced frontman was named in the Mangaung Unite starting 11 on Sunday afternoon when the side participated in the SAFA Free State ABC Motsepe League Nedbank Cup Preliminary tie against Kovsies.
The game between Mangaung Unite and Kovsies ended with a scoreline of 1-0 in favour of Mangaung Unite, thanks to a second-half goal by Neo Kekana.
Mangaung Unite are hoping that the experience of the talented goal-scorer will add value to the team and help the side defend their league title and qualify for the national playoffs once again in their quest to gain promotion to the professional ranks.
MOEKETSI SEKOLA’S IMPACT FROM HIS PREVIOUS CLUBS
Sekola’s football career started shining when he joined the now-defunct Free State Stars back in August 2013 in the SA elite league where he went on to play 101 matches for club and scored 21 goals. In the 2014/15 season, he won the Golden Boot at PSL awards with 14 goals.
Sekola also represented teams such as Roses United, Chippa United, Jomo Cosmos, Highlands Park, and Real Kings.
