Mike Makaab: The major reason why Kodisang returned to SA
Mike Makaab, the agent of Mamelodi Sundowns winger Kobamelo Kodisang, has revealed the major reason for the attacker’s return to South Africa instead of remaining in Europe.
Kodisang penned a five-year deal with Masandawana, joining from the Portuguese top-flight outfit Moreirense.
His return to South Africa follows over five years spent in Portugal, during which he also played for Sanjoanense and Braga B.
Kodisang’s move to the Brazilians was somewhat unexpected especially after Moreirense gained promotion to the to the top tier of Portuguese football.
Makaab indicated that Sundowns’ upcoming participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States was a significant factor influencing the player’s choice to join.
He believes this would also enhance Kodisang’s chances to get back to Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad.
MIKE MAKAAB EXPLAINS KOBAMELO KODISANG’S COMEBACK TO SA
“In all honesty, the main reason is the fact that Sundowns are playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in 2025,” said Makaab in an exclusive interview with FARPost.
“And Kodisang’s desire is also to play for the national team. His thoughts were that if he came back to South Africa, did well with Mamelodi Sundowns, and did well in the Club World Cup, the opportunity would present itself to be with the national team which I have no doubt, will happen.
“One thing I’ve seen with Hugo Broos is he will select players that he believes will do the job for him.
“And we saw him recall Themba Zwane and he has given him the captaincy [lately].
“That’s the major reason for Kodisang to come back to South Africa.”
Kodisang has made three appearances across all competitions this season including two in the CAF Champions League and one in the MTN8.
He scored his first goal in the colours of Brazilians during their emphatic 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows in the second leg of the second preliminary round of the Champions League.
