ABC Motsepe League club players robbed at gunpoint

Players from SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League club Musina United were left traumatized after being robbed at gunpoint at their clubhouse in Musina on Wednesday.

Two gunmen allegedly broke into the clubhouse while the players were watching a UEFA Champions League match around 11PM.

They ordered the players to lie down before assaulting two of the players with the gun. In turn, the criminals took 13 phones and an undisclosed amount of cash which belonged to the players. Luckily, the assaulted players were not seriously injured. The club has reported the matter to the Police in Limpopo, who are investigating.

“Most of these boys are from the Eastern Cape. Some are from KwaZulu-Natal and they are young boys. So they are traumatised. I was there again [at the clubhouse] last night before they could sleep. Some of them can’t even eat food. It’s not easy.

“The other player was explaining to me that those criminals removed the magazine from the gun and showed those boys the bullets. So they are traumatised too much, and as a team, we have arranged professional counselling for the team so that we can help these boys recover from this.”

ABC MOTSEPE LEAGUE SIDE MUSINA UNITED ARE RARING TO GO AHEAD OF THE NEW SEASON IN LIMPOPO

Musina are set to kick-start their 2024/25 season with a home fixture against White Vultures on Saturday, 12 October. Mabidi says despite the incident happening a few days before the season starts, the club is confident of fighting for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

“We took the boys out of Musina after the incident [on Thursday]. But our preparation is going well. Everything is done in order; we have new boys and a new structure. The community is also behind the team, and everything is going well despite this incident.”
