Lyle Lakay responds to imminent arrival of Nurkovic at SuperSport
SuperSport United left-back Lyle Lakay has responded to the imminent arrival of Samir Nurkovic at the club for the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
A few days ago, FARPost reported that Nurkovic has agreed terms to join SuperSport as they look to beef up their striking department.
Matsatsantsa are currently missing the services of their talisman Bradley Grobler who sustained an injury against Orlando Pirates in the first match of the MTN8 in August 2024. The Buccaneers subsequently won the 2024 MTN8 title after defeating Stellenbosch FC 3-1 at Moses Mabhida Stadium this past weekend.
Meanwhile, Nurkovic is set to join SuperSport United on a free transfer after his surprise exit from TS Galaxy last month. The Serbian international netted 10 goals in all competitions in 29 matches for Galaxy last season.
Nurkovic spent only one season with the Rockets having signed at the start of the 2023/24 campaign from Royal AM. He introduced himself to the South Africa football fanatics in the colours of Kaizer Chiefs 2019 where he went on to score 21 goals and provided 10 assists in his three seasons with Amakhosi.
After proving to be one of the lethal strikers in the SA’s top-flight, the 32-year-old is expected to fill Grobler’s void at United while he nurses his injury.
WHAT DID LYLE LAKAY SAY ABOUT SAMIR NURKOVIC?
Lakay has admitted that Nurkovic is a top player who can add a lot of value to the club’s striking department this season.
“There’s always rumours [on player’s transfers]; I’ve also read about the rumours in the newspapers,” Lakay said at the Carling Knockout Cup draw.
“With Nurkovic, he has proven himself in the country; you know he is a top striker and a top footballer. So, if we do get him, it will be a good signing for the team.
“At the end of the day it comes down to the team signing him, like I said I’m in the dark as everyone. There are rumours, but we don’t know if he’s coming or not, but at the same time, as players who are there, we have to deliver.”
