PSL announce decision on Royal AM

The PSL has made a decision on Royal AM following the club’s inability to honour their DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] matches in the 2024/25 season.

The club has failed to honour six matches so far due to a shortage of squad players. The DDC have seen six rounds of matches played so far, with Royal AM the only club yet to kick start their season.

Royal AM are still serving a ban by FIFA for failing to settle a payment of R12 million to striker Samir Nurkovic. The club was reportedly handed another transfer ban for their matter with former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Ricardo Nascimento.

Therefore, the KZN club cannot register players until their ban is lifted or they settle the matters.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PSL confirmed that the league has made a decision to halt the club’s participation in the DDC league.

PREMIER SOCCER LEAGUE EXPLAIN THEIR DECISION ON KZN SIDE DDC’S FUTURE

“Royal AM Football Club has been unable to field a team in the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge competition due to a FIFA registration ban,” the league said.

“After reviewing the facts and representations presented by the club this week, the PSL Executive Committee has resolved to halt Royal AM Football Club’s participation in the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge competition..”

As previously reported by FARPost, only eight players are currently eligible to participate in this season’s competition for Royal AM. However, one of these players is suspended from the previous season, reducing the number of available players to seven.

Even Thwihli Thwahla’s first team is prohibited from registering new players for their first team in the PSL. This leaves them with a depleted squad to compete in the SA elite league.
