These statistics paint a clear picture: Hlongwane is the driving force behind Minnesota’s attack. His 11 goals represent a significant portion of the team’s overall scoring output, with Tani Oluwaseyi trailing behind with eight.

HLONGWANE STRESSES THE COMPETITIVE NATURE OF MLS

Since joining Minnesota United in January 2022, the 24-year-old has consistently impressed. Across all competitions, the ex-Maritzburg United hitman has made 104 appearances, scored 30 goals, and provided 14 assists. His versatility is also an asset, as he has successfully featured on the right wing, at centre forward, and on the left wing.

In a recent interview with FARPost, Hlongwane highlighted the competitive nature of the MLS, noting that players must work hard to succeed.

MLS is home to many top footballers, including the former Barcelona FC quartet of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez.

“It’s a difficult league because you play with experienced people who have been in the game for so long,” said Hlongwane. “So, we have to learn from them and listen to them when they advise us.

“So I have to listen to them and do exactly what they say to keep my standards high all the time. That’s the reason why I’m finding the new season well.
