‘I heard he was supposed to come to Chiefs’: Otieno on highly-rated Kenyan striker
Richards Bay FC goalkeeper Ian Otieno has weighed in on the rumours linking a highly-rated Kenyan striker to Kaizer Chiefs.
The Kenyan goalkeeper, Otieno, joined the Natal Rich Boyz at the beginning of the current 2024/25 season from the Zambian giants Zesco United.
He has acknowledged having learnt about the speculation surrounding the Kenya National Team captain Michael Olunga’s potential move to Amakhosi.
Reports prior to the start of the season suggested that the Soweto giants were keen on acquiring the services of the forward. Olunga currently plies his trade at Al-Duhail in the Qatar Stars League.
Otieno says he often speaks with the centre-forward and has expressed his desire to see the 30-year-old join him in the PSL at some point in the future.

“About Michael, he’s the captain of the national team; we speak a lot, actually,” Otieno told FARPost. “I heard of the rumours that he was supposed to come to Kaizer Chiefs, I don’t know.
“But I don’t know because the Arab money is something else, you know. You might never know what is happening back there.
“Yeah, but in future, if he’d like to come, I can invite him to come over because the PSL is such a good league.”
The Harambee Stars skipper, Olunga has established himself as a pivotal goal scorer for Al-Duhail.
OLUNGA WAS RECENTLY HONOURED WITH THE PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD
He currently stands as the joint-leading goal scorer in the league, having rattled in eight goals and contributed two assists so far this season.
This week, the former Gor Mahia striker was honoured with the Qatari Stars League Player of the Month award for October for his exceptional performances.
He’s been the most crucial player for Al-Duhail, netting three goals and providing one assist last month. He has helped the side maintain its position at the summit of the league table with 22 points after nine matches.
