William Shongwe’s only concern about Chiefs goalie Fiacre Ntwari

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper William Shongwe has raised his only concern about the club’s number one goalie, Fiacre Ntwari.

Ntwari hit the ground running at Chiefs, claiming the number one jersey after his transfer from TS Galaxy ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership.

The 25-year-old has played all of Amakhosi’s seven matches in all competitions in the current campaign. However, the Rwandan international is yet to make an impression after only keeping one clean sheet and conceding 11 goals in the process.

Ntwari is currently representing Rwanda in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers. The tournament is set to be staged in Morocco. Rwanda recently faced a 1-0 defeat against Libya on Thursday, with Ntwari starting in goal for his national team.

WHAT IS WILLIAM SHONGWE CONCERNED ABOUT WHEN IT COMES TO FIACRE NTWARI?

Legendary goalkeeper Shongwe has expressed concern over Ntwari’s recent performances, particularly highlighting issues with his shot-stopping, decision-making, and goal distribution. Shongwe believes that these weaknesses are not a result of a lack of quality but rather areas that need to be addressed through coaching and training.

“Chiefs signed a good goalkeeper in Ntwari; he’s playing for his national team as well, but the only place where I can actually blame him is his attributes,” Shongwe told FARPost. “His saving, decision-making and ball distribution are not quality. He lacks the quality of [Itumeleng] Khune, but I’m not comparing him with Khune.

“That’s where I can put a finger on him; for me, that’s something he should improve on. I think the coaches should plan and come up with a solution for this.

“If he improves on that, he may become one of the top keepers in this league. They can do better. I know the coaches are still new at the club; they are still learning, but the pressure is mounting.”
