Jerry Skhosana names Magesi star who can solve Chiefs’ scoring problems

Former Orlando Pirates striker Jerry Skhosana has named a Magesi FC forward who can solve Kaizer Chiefs’ scoring problems.

Chiefs are reportedly searching for a new sharpshooter ahead of the January transfer window.

They have had a somewhat slow start to the season, picking two wins, one draw and losing twice. They have created scoring opportunities in some games but struggled to convert their chances.

Amakhosi head coach Nasreddine Nabi has relied on Ranga Chivaviro, who has, so far, weighed in with two goals in the Betway Premiership in five starts. Chivaviro was also on target in the Carling Knockout Cup as Chiefs humiliated SuperSport United 4-0.

Skhosana, a revered marksman during his heydays, is convinced Nabi’s solution lies in Magesi forward. The newly promoted Limpopo side has had an exciting start to the season.

On Saturday, they lifted the Carling Knockout Cup at the expense of Mamelodi Sundowns. The Clinton Larsen-coached side staged a remarkable comeback to beat Sundowns 2-1 at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

WHO’S THE MAGESI FC STAR WHO COULD SOLVE CHIEFS’ STRIKING PROBLEMS

“Kaizer Chiefs should be looking at a striker like Wonderboy Makhubu,” Skhosana told FARPost. “To me, he’s a prolific striker. It’s about scoring goals and his overall contribution as a striker. He draws the attention of defences and creates opportunities for his teammates to score. He’s that kind of a player for me.”

Makhubu has scored twice in the league for Dikwena this season. Interestingly, one of his goals came against Amakhosi as they played a 2-2 draw in the Betway Premiership.

The 27-year-old forward was instrumental in Magesi’s impressive run in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. He scored 11 goals in 30 matches.

His coach, Larsen, has tipped him for a Bafana Bafana call-up if he continues doing well.

“I think it’s just a matter of time [before he is called to the national team],” said Larsen. “I have been around the block a few times, and I don’t think I have seen a better striker in the teams we have played with.

“It’s my honest opinion. I rate him very highly, so I believe that once he reaches double figures, many other teams will start to take note of him.”

WHY LARSEN RATES MAKHUBU SO HIGHLY

The veteran coach continued, “When you talk about defending from the front, his name is up there with the best.” He added that the former Sekhukhune United forward “puts defenders under so much pressure with his selfless, pressing actions.”

“Clean heart and comes to training every day with a smile,” Larsen added. “Those are the type of players some of us coaches take to. They are a pleasure to coach, and when success comes their way, you can’t be anything but happy for such people. Wonderboy is one of those.”
