Richards Bay confirm Brandon Truter exit

Richards Bay chairman Jomo Biyela has confirmed Brandon Truter’s exit from the club. FARPost reported on Thursday that Truter had told his players of his impending exit.

His second stint at the club began in August 2024 and had yet to yield the desired results. In 11 matches across all competitions, the team has managed only three wins, two draws, and six losses.

The attacking woes have been particularly evident, with the team scoring a mere three goals and conceding eight.

Tuesday’s 2-1 defeat to 10-man Kaizer Chiefs proved the final straw. The result left Richards Bay languishing in 14th place in the Betway Premiership table.

WHAT JOMO BIYELA SAID ABOUT BRANDON TRUTER’S EXIT

According to SABC Sport, Biyela said: “We did not fire the coach. However, for our sanity, it was best that we go our separate ways with our integrity intact. The coach did not meet the performance requirements for the season,” Biyela told the public broadcaster.

Truter replaced Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who parted company with the club in September. Vilakazi disagreed with the club’s top four target that was set for him.

This was after the club secured a substantial sponsorship deal with Phakwe Gas, amounting to R60 million over three years and an additional R40 million for community development initiatives.

The former Moroka Swallows, AmaZulu, and Sekhukhune United coach had managed to guide the team to the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout. However, recent performances, including a loss to Magesi FC, have led to his dismissal.

Meanwhile, assistant coaches Ronnie Gabriel and Sboniso Gumede will lead the team in Saturday’s match against AmaZulu. Interestingly, they will face their former coach, Vilakazi, who is now a co-coach with Arthur Zwane at Usuthu.

The Durban outfit is desperate for maximum points. Having only picked up one win in five games, a win would move them from 16th place.
