Sanoka on how arrival of former Chiefs star will turn SuperSport’s fortunes
SuperSport United defender Pogiso Sanoka has explained how the arrival of former Kaizer Chiefs star Samir Nurkovic will turn the club’s fortunes in the second round of the 2024/25 season.
The Tshwane-based side has struggled to find a consistent winning formula in the Betway Premiership, and they are winless in their three league matches.
In the last three games, SuperSport suffered a 1-0 defeat against Marumo Gallants before playing two successive goalless draws against Chippa United and Golden Arrows, respectively.
SuperSport last collected maximum points when they beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 at Peter Mokaba Stadium on the 26th of October 2024. They are currently occupying position nine on the log standings with nine points after nine games played.
Meanwhile, Matsatsantsa have also lost out on two domestic trophies after being knocked out of the MTN8 and Carling Knockout Cup.
The Gavin Hunt-coached team were knocked out of the first round of the 2024 MTN8 by Orlando Pirates earlier in the season. In the Carling Cup, United suffered a 4-0 drubbing to Chiefs and missed another chance to win a cup title.
WHAT DID POGISO SANOKA SAY ABOUT NURKOVIC’S ARRIVAL AT SUPERSPORT UNITED?
Sanoka has lauded the signing of Nurkovic and says his qualities will fit perfectly into the direct football played by SuperSport.
“You know we have been unfortunate with injuries, but it’s a good thing that Bradley Grobler is back now, and I think Nurkovic will be ready in the second round,” Sanoka told FARPost.
“It’s going to be easy for Nurkovic to adapt because he worked with coach Gavin at Kaizer Chiefs. So I think him coming in is a big boost for us and it’s something I’m looking forward to.
“At the start of the season, we had a lot of injuries, and we had to take players [DStv] Diski Challenge to fill the gaps, but you know they need time to adjust and learn the game.
“I think now things will be much easier, looking at the experience when we combine it with the youngsters. As for Nurkovic, he’s a proven goal-scorer, and we’re going to benefit a lot from his qualities, which will help us get results in the second round of the season.”
