Marumo Gallants issue update on FIFA ban
Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants have issued an update on the recent transfer ban by FIFA.
Gallants’ recent ban stems from failure to pay the amount owed to their former striker Mwape Musonda, a debt they inherited when the club acquired its status from Moroka Swallows.
The Zambian striker played for the now-defunct Dube Birds, but his contract was prematurely terminated. He took the matter to FIFA, who subsequently slapped Gallants with a ban this past Wednesday.
They are not allowed to sign players until a payment is made to the 33-year-old.
BETWAY PREMIERSHIP CLUB ORDERED TO PAY FORMER MOROKA SWALLOWS STRIKER MWAPE MUSONDA
“On Wednesday, we received communication from FIFA with regard to the transfer ban,” club spokesperson Sello Nduna told FARPost.
“But I must also indicate that it’s something that happened during the Moroka Swallows era. But the FIFA ban has been imposed on us because we bought that status.
“At the moment, we are busy looking at it. So we also assure our supporters that this will be dealt with accordingly,” he said.
“So it was basically between him [Mwape Musonda] and Swallows. When we took over from Moroka Swallows, he was not playing for them at that stage.”
MARUMO GALLANTS OPTIMISTIC THEY WILL SOLVE THE TRANSFER BAN BEFORE JANUARY
“Unfortunately, now that we have taken over, we have to deal with it. We will deal with it in a professional way, and our supporters don’t need to panic.”
“But I can’t speak about solving the issue at a specific time but it will be done accordingly. In January, it should have been resolved.”
After leaving Swallows, Musonda returned to his former club, Black Leopards where he impressed enough, during his initial stint, to earn a transfer to Hatta Club in the United Arab Emirates.
This is after he finished as top goal scorer in the 2018/19 season. Swallows snatched him upon his return to South Africa in 2021 after a season in the Gulf region.
