Update on Khanyisile Mayo’s injury and future
Patrick Mayo, the father of SA footballer Khanyisile Mayo, has issued an update on his son’s injury and discussed his future.
Khanyisile Mayo has been a free agent after he was part of Chippa United’s mass exodus in June 2024, following the conclusion of the 2023/24 PSL campaign. Chippa parted ways with 16 players as they were restructuring their squad.
The talented forward suffered a long-term injury setback, ACL, in April 2023, and he hasn’t recovered. The last time he played football was in a league match against Marumo Gallants in the 2022/23 campaign.
PATRICK MAYO SAYS KHANYISILE MAYO’S OPERATION IS IMMINENT
The retired footballer, a striker before becoming a defender, revealed to FARPost that Khanyisile will undergo surgery soon. The 25-year-old is itching to be back on the field and continue playing football.
“Well, when it comes to Khanyisile, we are focusing on him to recover. He hasn’t done the operation yet,” said Patrick Mayo.
“But the good news is that we have finally got a doctor that will do the operation. However, we are still waiting for communication from the doctors regarding when the operation will be done.
The Kaizer Chiefs legend further discussed Khanyisile’s future in playing football, stating that he has not given up. His brother Khanyisa Mayo, who is playing for Algerian side CR Belouizdad, has been very supportive of Khanyisile during these tough times.
“He hasn’t given up on playing football. Surely, one day, he will be back on the field. I always tell him not to give up and to keep on believing.
“Khanyisa plays a role in making sure Khanyisile gets all the support he needs. They talk more often even if it’s not about football,” he added.
