Khama Billiat speaks on his AFCON dream

Former PSL star Khama Billiat has revealed the sole dream that has remained elusive in his international career.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs talisman played a crucial role in helping ‘The Warriors’ qualify for AFCON 2025 to be staged in Morocco.

Though he scored one goal since coming out of international football retirement, midway through the qualifiers, he was a vital cog.

The 34-year-old who was on his revival path, spurred  the Zimbabwe attack with his flair and trickery.

And as they qualified, Billiat saw an oppurtunity to fulfil a dream that has been elusive in his international career.

He previously featured at the prestigious AFCON in 2017 and 2019. However on all the appearances, ‘The Warriors’ failed to go beyond the group phase.

He missed the 2021 AFCON edition that was hosted by Cameroon as it happened when he took his sabbatical.

And Billiat has set his sights on ensuring they qualify for the knockout stages for the first time, having failed twice in his presence.

“Obviously the qualification made us all happy and as a team we are looking forward to the next stage,” Billiat said on the sidelines of Zimbabwe’s PSL Soccer Stars banquet.

“We worked hard for it but I hope we will do better. I have always wanted us to go beyond the groups. Its the dream and to be winners.

“I feel like we have a team which is good enough to fight for wins. The team has all the character needed and I am happy to be back.”

Meanwhile, Billiat capped off the 2024 Zimbabwe PSL season in style after bagging two awards.

He starred for Yadah FC to end the season on a high note, with 24 goal contributions – 13 goals and 11 assists.

And he was named the second runner-up for the Player of the Season Award.

Billiat also received the Fans Player of the Year award for being exceptional throughout the season.
