“I feel sorry for players”: Daniels on Spurs situation
Veteran defender Clayton Daniels has weighed in on Cape Town Spurs’ situation in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
Currently, the Cape club has gone 10 games without tasting victory in the SA second tier, having lost 2-1 to Pretoria Callies in their last league game a week ago.
As things stand, the Urban Warriors are in 14th place with 10 points after 14 outings. They are one point ahead of the basement side Venda FC.
Under Ernst Middendorp’s guidance, Spurs won just two games, drew four, and lost eight.
WHAT CLAYTON DANIELS SAID ABOUT CAPE TOWN SPURS’ STRUGGLES
The former Mamelodi Sundowns man, Daniels, expressed his sympathy for the players of his old club, who are facing a challenging situation. He related to their difficulties, mentioning that he had been in a similar position.
“You know, it’s a difficult space that they find themselves in. You know I don’t want to talk much in detail about Spurs. But, I feel sorry about the players who are there, trying their utmost best to get out of the situation,” said Daniels in a recent interview with FARPost.
“The players don’t deserve that [what they are going through now]. Unfortunately, certain things are out of their control.
“I know what they are going through. I have been there. So, they must keep their heads up and keep working hard. Hopefully, there is a light at the end of the tunnel to keep their hopes and dreams of Cape Town Spurs in the NFD.”
Spurs’ upcoming league match will be at home against Casric Stars on Friday, 10 January 2025. The match will start at 19:30.
The team will be aiming to change their fortunes and will do all they can to stay clear of relegation at the conclusion of the season.
