Gaston Sirino’s situation explained
Gaston Sirino’s absence from Kaizer Chiefs’ recent matchday squads has been explained. He missed both the Betway Premiership games against TS Galaxy and Chippa United, having last featured on December 8th, when he was substituted. This was in the 2-0 loss to Polokwane City.
Sirino was a key player for Amakhosi at the beginning of the season. He recorded two goals and four assists in eight starts, significantly contributing to their back-to-back victories in their opening league matches. He maintained a prominent role in the first five games, but his involvement diminished following the November FIFA break.
Soccer Laduma recently reported that the 33-year-old former Mamelodi Sundowns star had “faked injuries” and refused to participate in training.
WHAT IS HAPPENING TO GASTON SIRINO
FARPost has learnt that the Uruguayan winger reportedly suffered a fracture that will likely keep him out of action for between two weeks and a month. Sirino sustained a fractured rib during the game against Polokwane City after an awkward fall. Research indicates that a broken rib can take up to six weeks to heal naturally.
The setback means Sirino will miss the Cape Town City fixture over the weekend. He will also miss the tie against Stellenbosch FC on 8 January and the Golden Arrows one four days later. It is also doubtful he will be available for the Sekhukhune United game later in January.
Meanwhile, Kermit Erasmus, a former teammate of Sirino at Sundowns, has spoken highly of his work ethic.
“Sirino is a great guy; he works hard in training, and he loves being his own human being,” Erasmus told Soccer Beat. “He can be very playful off the field. I’ve never had any problems or issues with him while I was playing with him at Sundowns.
“You can see the impact he has as a player; when he’s in the mood, he brings his A-game.” He acknowledges Sirino’s language barrier but highlights his exceptional footballing intelligence.
“He still struggles with English, but when I play with him, we’ll communicate without even speaking to each other.
“That just shows you the football brains he has. If you are not alert around him, he might pass you the ball without you expecting, and you’ll look bad.
“So, he’s one of the smartest players, unpredictable, and you must always be ready as an attacking player when he has the ball.”
