Chiefs defender Given Msimango opens up on lack of game time
Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has opened up on his lack of game time this season under the new leadership at the club.
Msimango, who signed for Amakhosi in July 2023, established himself as a regular starter under the guidance of both Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson last season.
However, his playing time has diminished this season due to increased competition in the center-back position following the club’s recent defensive reinforcements.
Inacio Miguel and Rushwin Dortley, who joined Chiefs at the start of the current season, have emerged as the preferred center-back pairing under Nasreddine Nabi.
The 27-year-old, Msimango has made only four appearances across all competitions, starting three matches and coming on as a substitute in one.
Msimango attributed the loss of his starting position to the changes that occurred at the beginning of the season, including the appointment of new coach and the signings of new central defenders.
MSIMANGO SPEAKS OUT ON HIS LACK OF PLAYING TIME
“Yeah, personally, yeah, last season was, for me personally, was a good season. I played almost every game,” said Msimango.
“And of course, now this season came. A new coach. There are probably new players, reinforced defence, if I may say.
“So, yeah, just like every other player, I have to wait for my opportunity to play. When I get it, I need to use it.
“But for the time being, the guys that are playing, I need to support them. I need to show them the respect that they’ve shown me when I was playing. And that’s it for me to stay professional at all times.”
Msimango will be hoping for an opportunity to feature when Kaizer Chiefs face Cape Town City in the Betway Premiership clash at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday, 5 January.
