Chiefs receive major boost ahead of CT City clash

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi received a major boost with the return of an injured player ahead of Sunday evening’s crucial clash against Cape Town City. The Betway Premiership encounter will take place at DHL Stadium in Cape Town, kicking off at 17h45.

Amakhosi have recently been plagued by injuries, with players such as Gaston Sirino, Dillan Solomons, Tebogo Potsane, Edson Castillo and Bradley Cross sidelined.

However, Nabi confirmed that at least one of these players has returned to training and is now in contention for a place in the starting lineup.

The match against City will be a challenging test, as the Citizens have appointed Muhsin Ertugral as their new head coach, replacing Eric Tinkler earlier this week.

MAJOR BOOST FOR CHIEFS AS BRADLEY CROSS RETURNS

“We welcome some players such as Bradley Cross who have recovered from injury back in the squad, which is a bonus because he has been one of our most consistent players this season,” Nabi told the Chiefs website.

Meanwhile, Nabi is not reading too much into the changes at City. He has called on his players to concentrate for the entire game.

“Cape Town City are a very competitive team that did well last season,” he added. “They have the quality to hurt you if you are not on your game. It is 11 v 11 on the pitch, and that is all we are interested in, not what goes on elsewhere.”

On the tight schedule of fixtures, he admitted: “Playing three games in seven days makes things a little complicated”. This is because two of the fixtures are away from home.

“But we have done thorough preparation. That will help with the tight turnaround times between games. In a situation like this, there is no time for training; it is play, then recover, play and recover.”

He credited the fitness coach Majdi Safi for ensuring players are ready for the challenge that awaits them.
