How much Pirates, Sundowns & Stellenbosch could earn in CAF quarterfinals

South African clubs Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Stellenbosch FC look poised to advance to the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals. Significant financial rewards await those who qualify for the knockout stages of these prestigious continental competitions.

FARPost looks at the potential earnings for these clubs should they successfully navigate the group stage and reach the quarterfinals. The group stage concludes next weekend with the final round of matches determining the quarterfinalists.

Orlando Pirates need a win against Algeria’s CR Belouizdad to go through. They host the Algerians at the Orlando Stadium on Sunday afternoon [3PM].

If the Buccaneers win, they will move to the top of Group C with 11 points. Al Ahly currently leads the group with 10 points, having played their fifth game on Saturday. An Emam Ashour hattrick was enough to get the 12-time African champions back on track after they conceded first early in the game in Abidjan.

With one game to go, a victory over visiting Belouizdad would be enough to secure a spot in the knockout stage. However, Pirates still need to travel to Cairo, Egypt, to face Ahly; they know how difficult it is to win there. Therefore, they will be eager to win on Sunday to travel to Cairo without pressure.

PIRATES, SUNDOWNS & STELLENBOSCH POTENTIAL EARNINGS FOR CAF QUARTERFINALS

Mamelodi Sundowns, who came back from behind to beat AS Maniema Union 2-1 in DRC, must get at least a draw against group B leaders AS FAR Rabat in Pretoria.

Sundowns are just three points ahead of Raja Casablanca, who could still qualify if Sundowns lose, and they level points and better their goal difference with an emphatic win.

Sundowns and Pirates would receive US$900,000 [R17.2 million] from CAF.

Meanwhile, Stellenbosch FC host Stade Malien at the Loftus Stadium in Pretoria. The Mali outfit is in third place in group B of the CAF Confederation Cup. They are just two points behind Stellies who didn’t have the best start to the campaign. Two successive wins over Angola’s CD Lunda Sul have put the Winelands outfit in contention for a quarterfinal place. Now, they need to win to secure a place in the competition’s knockout stage. If they do so, they will receive US$550,000 [R10.5 million] from CAF.
