Gavin Hunt explains delay in signing of Christian Saile
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has shed light on the delay in securing Christian Saile from Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the second round of the Betway Premiership season.
Matsatsantsa are finalising a swap deal with Chiefs to sign Saile while Tashreeq Morris will go the opposite direction. Saile is expected to join SuperSport after struggling to establish himself as one of the key players at Amakhosi.
The left-footed attacker joined the Soweto giants in January 2023 and made 56 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and contributing four assists.
In the current campaign, Saile has featured in six appearances across all competitions. He is yet to score or make an assist.
The 25-year-old is eager to start playing at SuperSport, but Hunt has disclosed that delays related to the work permit are holding back his transfer to the Tshwane-based club.Â
WHAT GAVIN HUNT SAID ABOUT THE DELAY IN SIGNING CHRISTIAN SAILE
“Look right now, paperwork and obviously because Saile is a foreign player, so all of those things are going on behind the scenes and I’m not really involved,” Hunt said ahead of their Nedbank Cup last 32 clash against Magesi FC.
“I can’t really say if we are at this point or that point, you know. Certainly tonight or this afternoon, I’ll have more details. Right now, I really don’t have too much on him.
“I know that we need him and I’ll use him differently from a football perspective but these type of deals are complicated. With Morris, he found a great club and it’s a great opportunity. It’s a life experience for him and he’s going where they certainly going to need him and I’m sure he’ll do a good job for them.”
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef remained tight-lipped about the signing of Morris. Despite Hunt’s confirmation that the 30-year-old had gone to Chiefs, Ben Youssef could not deny or confirm the arrival of Morris.
The former Ajax Cape Town forward is joining Chiefs as the January signing alongside Dr Congo winger Glody Lilepo as previously reported by FARPost.
