Mvala gives honest admission on Keanu Cupido’s signing at Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala has given an honest admission about the signing of Keanu Cupido in the recently-closed January transfer window.
Sundowns completed the signing of Cupido from Cape Town City FC to boost their depth in the centre-back position. The 27-year-old has been at CT City for seven seasons after signing in July 2018 from French side AC Ajaccio.
The highly-rated defender has been a key player for CT City after making over 140 appearances across all competitions.
Keanu Cupido’s arrival at Sundowns is aimed at solidifying their backline as they compete for the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League, and FIFA Club World Cup.
The former SA’s junior international will compete with Mothobi Mvala, Grant Kekana, Mosa Lebusa, and Malibongwe Khoza for a place in the starting lineup.
Cupido is joining Jayden Adams, who was signed from Stellenbosch FC as the January signings for the Brazilians.
Meanwhile, Downs have also sent out Rushine De Reuck and Lebogang Maboe on loans to make space for new signings in the transfer window that closed a few days ago.
MOTHOBI MVALA APPROVES CUPIDO’S SIGNING AT SUNDOWNS
Mvala has approved the signing of Cupido, revealing that he’s a quality player and he’ll add much-needed depth as games are coming thick and fast.
“He [Cupido] is a top player, he’s a good signing for the team. We hope and know that he’s going to help us achieve the goals of the team,” Mvala said.
“We are there to help him, to guide him on how things are done in the team. So it’s a good signing for the team because you know at Sundowns everyone needs to be ready to play. So when others are resting, we must change the team with top players.”
Interestingly, Sundowns are set to finalise another loan move that will see Thembinkosi Lorch move to Morrocan giants Wydad Casablanca. Lorch could reunite with South African coach Rulani Mokwena who brought him to Sundowns in January 2024.
