Nabi shares candid assessment of Chiefs’ new signings
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared a candid assessment of the club’s new signings during the 2025 January transfer window.
The Soweto giants sealed deals for Thabo Cele, Tashreeq Morris, and Glody Lilepo for the second half of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.
Cele joined Chiefs from FC Fakel Voronezh in Russia, while Tashreeq Morris made a surprise move from SuperSport United in a swap deal that saw Christian Saile sign with the Gavin Hunt-coached team. Meanwhile, the DR Congo winger Lilepo was snapped up from French third-division side Valenciennes.
The signing of the three players comes as a big boost for Nabi who constantly emphasised the need to have quality players at Chiefs. Amakhosi have been inconsistent since the start of the current campaign under the guidance of Nabi. They are sitting fifth on the league table with 21 points after 14 games played.
WHAT DID NASREDDINE NABI SAY ABOUT CHIEFS’ NEW SIGNINGS?
With Chiefs looking to have a strong finish to the second round of the campaign, the Tunisian tactician is pleased with the club’s transfer business, revealing that they signed players on merit, not on popularity.
Interestingly, Chiefs reportedly tabled a lucrative offer to Polokwane City FC for the service of Oswin Appollis. However, the move could not materialise as PLK City is keen on keeping their best players.
“We firmly believe that we made smart recruitments without bringing names that have ring bells around them. It’s players that we analysed; we know what they are capable of, and we know how they can fit in our game model,” Nabi said at the Soweto Derby press conference on Thursday.
“So we just hope they’re going to take less time to adapt, but we are pretty sure that we made very good signings.”
The Glamour Boys will face Orlando Pirates in the highly-anticipated Soweto Derby clash at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 1st of February 2025. Kickoff is at 15:30.
