Motshwari, Human fire AmaZulu to victory over SuperSport
AmaZulu FC secured a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United in the Betway Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night.
Rowan Human and Ben Motswari scored for the home team, while Siphesihle Ndlovu netted for the visitors.
The opening minutes of the match saw a tight contest, with both teams battling for control in midfield but struggling to create clear scoring opportunities. A key moment came in the 11th minute when Ime Okon made a vital block, preventing a powerful long-range effort from Rowan Human.
ROWAN HUMAN’S OPENER IN FIRST HALFÂ
In the 14th minute, Human seized another chance in the box, firing a powerful shot past Thakasani Mbanjwa to give Usuthu a 1-0 lead. The opportunity arose after Siyabonga Ndebele blocked a cross from Rian Hanamub.
United responded by regrouping and applying pressure in search of a quick equaliser. Richard Ofori made a crucial close-range save to deny Siviwe Magidigi. Moments later, Usuthu nearly doubled their lead when Tshepang Moremi’s shot went narrowly wide after a through ball from Elmo Kambindu.
Matsatsantsa launched a series of attacks, penetrating the box on several occasions in search of a breakthrough, but Usuthu remained resolute and held onto their lead.Â
However, their resistance was finally broken when Siphesihle Ndlovu tapped the ball into an empty net for the equalizer. The opportunity came after goalkeeper Ofori came out to intercept a cut-back from Vincent Pule.
The first half ended with the two teams tied at 1-1.
The opening ten minutes of the second half mirrored the first, with both teams playing cautiously and few clear-cut scoring chances being created.
Vincent Pule nearly gave SuperSport the lead with a long-range shot that struck the crossbar, leaving Ofori stranded. SuperSport coach Gavin Hunt then made a double substitution, handing Lebohang Maboe his debut and bringing on Ghampani Lungu. They replaced Christian Saile and Neo Rapoo.
As the match neared its end, the game became increasingly scrappy, with little attacking intent from either side. However, Motshwari’s late winner unexpectedly proved decisive, earning his team maximum points at home.
