Hunt identifies Morris’ quality that sets him apart from all Chiefs’ strikers

Gavin Hunt has identified a quality Tashreeq Morris possesses that sets him apart from the other Kaizer Chiefs strikers.

After leaving Sekhukhune, Morris was clubless until October, when Hunt’s SuperSport United offered him a contract. The 30-year-old went on to score two goals in 10 appearances.

The Cape Town-born forward joined Chiefs during the just-ended January transfer window. Hunt acknowledged that Morris’ departure to the Soweto giants is a significant loss for his team.

The veteran coach believes the former South African youth international is “exactly what Kaizer Chiefs needs”. Morris is poised to debut for Amakhosi against AmaZulu FC in a Betway Premiership encounter on Tuesday night.

The former Matsatsantsa striker missed the Soweto Derby because he was still serving a suspension from his final game for Matsatsantsa. Morris was red-carded against his former club, Sekhukhune United, in a match Babina Noko won 3-0.

He missed the SuperSport-Magesi FC tie as he started his two-match suspension. After sitting out the Soweto Derby, Morris will likely get his first start for Amakhosi on Tuesday night.

Chiefs’ academy graduate Wandile Duba, who has been leading the line lately, is out nursing a knee injury. Ashley Du Preez is also ruled out, as he fractured his elbow last month.
In their absence, Ranga Chivaviro started the Soweto Derby and will fight for a starting place with Morris.

GAVIN HUNT EXPLAINS WHAT SETS TASHREEQ MORRIS APART FROM OTHER CHIEFS STRIKERS

Hunt singled out the most significant quality the former Ajax Cape Town forward brings to Amakhosi that they have been missing. “Huge, huge, huge, he was a guy three months ago walking on the streets, got him in. He ends up at Kaizer Chiefs,” Hunt told journalists.

The former Amakhosi coach, Hunt, is convinced Morris’ ability to sustain the ball and get to the final third will be key for Chiefs.

“It was huge [blow to see him leave]; Bradley is out. He came in; he could help us with how we want to play and what we’re trying to do. We can sustain the ball and get on the final third, all these types of things. He will be a big plus for them. He’s exactly what they need.”

Chiefs’ coach Nasreddine Nabi is a fan of Morris’s hold-up play. He sees him as a dynamic forward who excels at pressing the opposition and making intelligent off-the-ball movements.
