Modiba details Cardoso’s unique management style

Mamelodi Sundowns star Aubrey Modiba has explained coach Miguel Cardoso’s unique management style regarding players’ game time at the club.

Cardoso joined the club in December 2024 alongside his technical team, replacing Manqoba Mngqithi following inconsistent results. So far, the Portuguese mentor has been in charge of 11 matches in all competitions. He has won nine, drew one and suffered one defeat.

The depth of talent at Sundowns is always impressive. With so many top-quality players delivering week in and week out, competition for a place in the starting lineup is always intense.

In the 2024/25 Betway Premiership campaign, the Tshwane giants have the likes of Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende, Lucas Ribeiro, Ronwen Williams, Peter Shalulile, Khuliso Mudau and Iqraam Rayners.

AUBREY MODIBA SAYS CARDOSO COMMUNICATES WITH HIS PLAYERS SO HE BALANCES THEIR GAME TIME

Modiba says coach Cardoso always communicates with his players each time when there are upcoming matches. The midfielder known as ‘Postman’ further expanded that the aim is to avoid injuries before the season comes to an end.

Masandawana have a busy schedule as they participate in four competitions . These are namely; the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup and the CAF Champions League. In June, they will be playing in the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.

“I think the good thing is that the coach tries to explain to us the law and the matches that are coming because they are coming thick and fast,” said Modiba.

“For us, is to take it in our heads because he will tell you, ‘This game you’re going to play, that game you’re going to rest’. As a player, you try and understand where he’s coming from.

“At the end of the day, he doesn’t want us to break down before the season ends. So we understand what he wants from us like I said, so for us is to adjust and get to understand where the coach is going.”
