How Mamelodi Sundowns have progressed under Miguel Cardoso
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has highlighted several key factors contributing to the team’s progress under his guidance.
Sundowns have scored 18 goals in the last five matches in all competitions. This includes the 4-1 convincing win against rivals Orlando Pirates at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday in a league tie.
With the win over second-placed Pirates, Carodos’s men have now stretched their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership by nine points.
Cardoso has given credit to his players for what he says is an investment in understanding his ideas at training.
“The development of the team has been happening on a daily basis due to how the players train,” he said.
“I will continue to tell you that we don’t have a lot of time to train. Basically, at the moment, we have around 40 training sessions, and from those, many are recovery training sessions for the players who play more regularly.

“Obviously, the day after the match, we work a lot with the players that don’t play much on team building. That’s how we try to get all of them to the same level,” he explained.
Carodoso added: “But the development of this team has come from the investment the players have been doing in understanding the ideas. How they look at the videos that we analyse. How we tactically prepare for the games.
“Look, the game against Pirates was prepared in 20 minutes. We had 20 minutes on the pitch where we didn’t run; we just positioned the players.
“We don’t work on the different moments of the game isolated. We try to connect the moments of the game as much as possible when we train because we believe that a team that defends well can attack better. The approach to team development is to be always balanced. It means when we attack we should always consider how the other team can harm us.”
