Nabi identifies key area for Chiefs reinforcement
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has pinpointed a specific area of the squad that he believes requires strengthening in the July transfer window.
The highly-rated coach faces a challenging task in the PSL: bringing Chiefs back to their glory days as the club last won a trophy in the 2014/15 season.
Nabi took over as head coach of Amakhosi ahead of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season after leaving his position at the Moroccan club AS FAR. His arrival has inspired a new sense of optimism among Amakhosi supporters, who have been longing for silverware after nearly a decade without a trophy.
He has consistently emphasised the importance of recruiting quality players to build a competitive squad. During the January transfer window, the Soweto giants signed Thabo Cele, Tashreeq Morris, and Glody Lilepo to strengthen the team for the second half of the season.
The three signings have quickly become integral parts of the Chiefs’ line-up, starting in their last two league matches against AmaZulu FC and Stellenbosch FC.
CHIEFS COACH NASREDDINE NABI WANTS A SPECIALIST LEFT-BACK IN NEXT TRANSFER WINDOW
Nabi has revealed that Chiefs needs a ‘specialist’ left-back in the next transfer window. They currently have Bradley Cross, Edmilson Dove and Bongani Sam in the left-back position.
Interestingly, The Glamour Boys were linked to Stellies star Fawaaz Basadien and Anderson Cruz from Petro de Luanda before signing Cross and Sam.
“We need to build a tactical culture in the team, and every time there’s an opportunity in the transfer window, strengthen the team, we use it,” Nabi said.
“So we feel that we are in the right way even if we are not consistent; for example, we also feel that we should have had a left-back that is a specialist in its position.
“The one that plays there [Bradley Cross], although he plays amazingly well, he is someone who was there at first to try him and see how he does, but overall, we believe that going to the end of the season, we are in the right space with the right ingredients to do something good.”
