Sundowns serve cold revenge on TS Galaxy with dominant display
Mamelodi Sundowns served cold revenge to TS Galaxy with a dominant 4-1 victory in the Betway Premiership on Saturday afternoon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.
The Tshwane giants welcomed Galaxy at home, looking to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered at the hands of the Rockets two weeks ago.
Galaxy pulled off a big upset as they beat Sundowns at Mbombela Stadium in the Premiership encounter. Sundowns’ defeat against Galaxy was their second loss of the season after dropping points against Polokwane City FC earlier in the season.
The Brazilians made their intentions of collecting maximum points clear after netting a quick goal in the first minute of the match through Peter Shalulile.
Sundowns doubled their lead in the seventh minute courtesy of in-form striker Iqraam Rayners. The Bafana Bafana international has proven to be a key player after joining Masandawana at the start of the 2024/25 season from Stellenbosch FC.
IQRAAM RAYNERS MAINTAINS IMPRESSIVE FORM IN SUNDOWNS COLOURS
In his first season in the colours of Sundowns, Rayners has scored 14 goals and provided four assists in 26 appearances across all competitions.
Meanwhile, in the 10th minute, The Mpumalanga-based side pulled one goal back through Sphiwe Mahlangu to bring the score to 2-1.
With the match getting intense, Galaxy were reduced to 10-man after Victor Letsoalo was sent off in the 28th minute due to a dangerous tackle on Bathusi Aubaas.
Sundowns capitalised on their numerical advantage on the pitch, taking the scoreline to 3-1 thanks to a goal by Jayden Adams in the 38th minute.
The match went into the half-time break with Sundowns leading 3-1, leaving Galaxy with all to do in the second half. In the second stanza, Downs were quick off the mark as Rayners scored his second goal of the match in the 46th minute.
Sundowns held on to their 4-1 lead to collect maximum points against Galaxy to clinch a crucial win that took their point-tally to 48 points in 18 matches.
In a late kickoff on Saturday, AmaZulu FC defeated Magesi FC 3-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Usuthu took an early lead through Nkosikhona Radebe in the 21st minute. Tshepang Moremi extended their advantage in the 63rd minute, and substitute Andiswa Sithole sealed the victory with a third goal in the 76th minute, securing a decisive win for the KwaZulu-Natal side.
