Agency confirms SuperSport United teen sensation’s talks with overseas club
Betway Premiership side SuperSport United are in talks with an overseas club for one of their teenage stars.
Gil Vicente, a Liga Portugal club, has officially submitted an offer to SuperSport United for 17-year-old midfielder Manelisi Mazibuko, as reported by Transfermarkt South Africa. The final decision now lies with SuperSport United’s CEO, Stan Matthews.
The interest comes just six months after he signed his first professional contract with Matsatsantsa. Gil Vicente’s scouts were reportedly in South Africa for the No Limits Atlas Showcase, held at Balfour Park from December 6 to 8, 2024.
Although he signed his pro deal in August 2024, the highly valued star has yet to make his Betway Premiership debut. The left-footed young player possesses remarkable pace, exceptional ball control, and impressive finishing. In addition to his midfield role, he can play on either wing and has a history of scoring stunning free-kicks.
WHAT MANELISI MAZIBUKO’S AGENCY SAID ABOUT THE GIL VINCENTE TALKS WITH SUPERSPORT UNITED
The player’s agency, P Management Sports, wrote on X that the two clubs were in talks, hoping they would soon reach an agreement. P Management indicated that Mazibuko, who turns 18 in March, harbours ambitions of plying his trade in Europe.
“We are hoping that Gil Vincente and SuperSport United reach a transfer agreement soon. This will pave the way for Manelisi ‘Sugar’ Mazibuko’s dream of plying his trade in Europe. Manelisi turns 18 next month and will be eligible to sign a professional contract,” the agency wrote.
The Tshwane side has a history of letting players pursue their careers abroad. At the end of the 2023/24 season, they sold another teenager, Shandre Campbell, to Club Brugge.
The South African youth international spent the early stages of his stint in Belgium, playing in the Challenger Pro League for Brugge’s youth side, Club NXT. The 19-year-old was recently promoted to the senior team.
Mazibuko will be hoping for a similar pathway to Europe, but it remains to be seen whether the two clubs will reach an agreement.
