Ertugral confirms CT City’s new coach appointment

Cape Town City technical advisor and interim coach Muhsin Ertugral has confirmed the club’s new coach appointment.

The Turkish tactician was brought in by the Citizens in January following the exit of Eric Tinkler who was sacked after a string of poor results.

His early days at the club were promising, marked by impressive victories against Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. Thereafter, the team’s fortunes under Ertuğral took a downturn.

In 11 matches tunder the tutelage of the former Kaizer Chiefs coach, City have won three, drawn one and lost seven.

Speaking after the team’s 2-0 loss to AmaZulu FC on Sunday afternoon, he revealed that the club has appointed a new coach who is expected to take over in the near future, as they seek to turn things around.

Furthermore, outlining his responsibilities as technical advisor, Ertuğral indicated that part of his job will be on the club’s “new youth section” with the objective of developing young talent.

NEW COACH IDENTIFIED BY CAPE TOWN CITY

“I think we have already opted for the coach. And he sees the team,” said Ertugral after their 2-0 defeat against AmaZulu on Sunday.

“Obviously in April, when the team is a bit secure and we can relax a bit, then we can start to plan ahead. That is the time that we need to look into and work on the players.

“Obviously, but the main objective is that the coach needs his time [because] he also has his vision.

“I can say whatever I want to say but my room is already different. [I’m not just] telling the coach what to [do]. There are other elements that we need to take care of especially in the youth section that will come.

“Cape Town City is known for building youngsters. They’re playing all over the country. And that’s our policy to do it more and I think who else can be better than myself to believe in the 16-year-old boy [Emile Witbooi] here in this time?

“You need to have some guts for that. So obviously that will help the club, I have experience how to maneuver behind the scenes.

“But also a lot of other elements that need to be done. I have experience [for all of that]. So we’re going bring that, hopefully to Cape Town.”

‘LET THE CLUB ANNOUNCE’

Ertuğral refrained from disclosing the name of the appointed coach, saying the club would be responsible for the official announcement.

“Yeah we have already [identified the coach]. Let the club [announce].”
