Sundowns officially announce Bafana Bafana striker’s signing

Mamelodi Sundowns have officially announced the signing of Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba for the remainder of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season.

Sundowns have been beefing up their squad as they push for the eighth successive league title and the CAF Champions League. They are also set to compete in the 2025 FIFA World Cup.

The Brazilians made high-profile signings in the 2025 January transfer window. This is to signal their intentions to remain one of the powerhouses in the African continent.

In January, Sundowns signed Jayden Adams, Lucas Suárez, and Keanu Cupido and recalled Matias Esquivel from his loan spell with Club Atlético Talleres in Argentina.

Adams and Suárez have already proven to be pivotal for Sundowns after playing regular football under Miguel Cardoso. The central-midfielder who was signed from Stellenbosch FC has formed a formidable combination with Marcelo Allende and Teboho Mokoena in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, Suárez has quickly established himself as a regular starter in the left centre-back position for Downs after signing from Club Atlético Talleres on loan.

With Sundowns looking to challenge for all competitions on offer, they signed Mothiba to beef up their attacking options.

On the other hand, the Tshwane-based outfit currently has Peter Shalulile, Iqraam Rayners, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, and Arthur Sales in the striking department.

Moreover, Mothiba is joining Sundowns as a free agent after parting ways with French Ligue 1 side RSC Strasbourg at the end of the 2023/24 season.

In addition, the 29-year-old will be looking to bang in goals for Sundowns to return to Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad after a long absence in the national team due to a long injury layoff.

Equally important, South Africa will participate in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, where Broos’ troops will face Egypt, Zimbabwe, and Angola in Group B of the tournament.
