ZIFA boss explains Willard Katsande’s task in the association
Zimbabwe Football Association [ZIFA] president Nqobile Magwizi has explained ex-Kaizer Chiefs star Willard Katsande’s task in the association.
Katsande was recently drafted into ZIFA‘s Ad hoc committee on Diaspora and Global Interaction. The committee, a first of its kind in Zimbabwe, has been tasked to enhance the football motherbody’s reach to stakeholders and neglected players outside the country.
The committee is led by United Kingdom-based football enthusiast Marshall Gore as the chairperson. At the moment, all eyes are on the over 20 England-based players that have been identified.
Most recently, Zimbabwe unearthed players that include Udinese left-back Jordan Zemura and Huddersfield Town forward Tawanda Chirewa. Midfielder Andy Rinomhota of Cardiff City concludes the list of England-based players that have since walked into The Warriors’ first team.
WHAT ZIFA PRESIDENT MAGWIZI SAID ABOUT KATSANDE
Speaking to FARPost, Magwizi said the committee has a mandate of luring all players of Zimbabwean heritage.
“The idea for the likes of Katsande is for them to help us get every Zimbabwean on board. One of our mission statements focuses on getting everyone on board. Those in and out of the country,” Magwizi told FARPost.
“We are here, but the truth is we cannot do everything by ourselves, but we have Zimbabweans living in Europe and Asia among other continents.
“So we said let’s come up with a committee to coordinate these efforts so that we have the best for Zimbabwe. That is why we now have a team that will identify these people we need.
“They know the needs of those out of the country, and they will feed into the association. So this team, with the help of Katsande, will coordinate those efforts. We already had guys that were doing it on their own, but now we can have a coordinated effort from our committee.”
Katsande had an exceptional time during his playing days for The Warriors of Zimbabwe. He made 27 appearances and managed three goals in the period he served as the captain. His exceptional leadership as the team’s captain has earned him a leading role in the revival of Zimbabwe’s football.
