Arrows stun Chiefs with late winner by Knox Mutizwa

Golden Arrows stunned Kaizer Chiefs with a  2-1 defeat in the Betway Premiership at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday afternoon.

The Soweto giants found the back of the net through their captain, Yusuf Maart, whereas Nduduzo Sibiya and Knox Mutizwa scored for Arrows.

Chiefs returned from the FIFA international break and travelled to KZN to face Arrows, looking to bounce back from their 2-0 loss against Richards Bay FC on the 16th of March 2025 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in KZN.

Amakhosi had a promising start to the game after creating a handful of goal-scoring opportunities. Early in the first half, they were awarded a penalty. Maart stepped up to take the spot kick, but his shot hit the upright.

NDUDUZO SIBIYA OPENED THE SCORING FOR ARROWS

In the 25th minute, Arrows launched a quick counter-attack and scored the opening goal of the match through Nduduzo Sibiya. However, a few minutes later, Maart redeemed himself and found an equalising goal in the 29th minute after receiving a great pass from Gaston Sirino.

Kaizer Chiefs and Abafana Bes’thende went into the half-time break level on a 1-1 scoreline, leaving the match open for anyone to collect maximum points.

After the half-time break, Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi brought in Sibongiseni Mthethwa in place of Thabo Cele, who looked to have picked up a knock. The talented midfielder has been key for Chiefs since signing in the January transfer window from Russian club Fakel Voronezh.

The KZN-based side scored a winning goal in the 78th minute courtesy of the Zimbabwean international Knox Mutizwa.

Chiefs failed to trouble Golden Arrows in the second half as they suffered their second successive loss in the league.

Enock Sakala Junior and Craig Martin scored for the Chilli Boys while Tshepang Moremi netted a consolation goal for AmaZulu FC.

In the last game of the day in Polokwane at the Seshego Stadium, Magesi FC narrowly beat Stellenbosch FC 1-0.
