Makola names the sole candidate suitable to replace Jose Riveiro

Retired midfielder Mpho Makola has weighed in on Jose Riveiro’s imminent exit from Orlando Pirates, naming the sole candidate he opines can bring continuity at the Soweto giants.
A few days ago, on Thursday, Pirates announced that Riveiro will be stepping down from his position at the end of the current season.
The report was received with mixed feelings, considering how the Spanish coach has fared at the club. He helped the team account for three consecutive MTN8 titles, a record that has not been achieved by another PSL club.
Additionally, they also won two Nedbank Cup titles. As it stands, he has spurred Pirates to the CAF Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2013.
Moreover, they are currently in contention for the Betway Premiership title, albeit with slim chances, as they also aim to defend the Nedbank Cup.

WHAT THE MAKOLA SAID ABOUT RIVEIRO’S IMMINENT EXIT
And as Riveiro eyes the exit door, former Pirates star Makola admits the club faces a decisive moment. In an interview with FARPost, Makola said Pitso Mosimane is the sole candidate who can give Pirates continuity.
Mosimane has been unattached since parting ways with Gulf Pro League outfit Esteghlal FC due to an unresolved dispute over unpaid salaries.
“You know what, that’s football for you. Nothing lasts forever and coach Jose brought back the smiles on Pirates’ fans. Pirates supporters go to matches because of him and the way the team has transformed is because of him,” said Makola.
“I’m really happy with his contribution to our football. I hope his teachings don’t fade away within the team and its players.
“Lastly, I’m saying bring coach Pitso [Mosimane] if you want to continue with what Jose has already built. If you want the league and to conquer Africa, then he is the right person.”
Furthermore, Bucs supporters will be eager to see who will replace Riveiro ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.
