Moeneeb Josephs names two Bafana stars Pirates should sign

Orlando Pirates legend Moeneeb Josephs has named two Bafana Bafana stars his former side should sign in the next transfer window.

The Buccaneers have been one of the exciting teams to watch in the Betway Premiership with their free-flowing and thrilling football.

In the past three seasons, Pirates have established themselves as the ‘Cup Kings’ of South African football after winning five domestic trophies.

The Soweto giants have clinched three successive MTN8 trophies and two Nedbank Cup titles under the guidance of Jose Riveiro, who is set to leave the club at the end of the current season. Riveiro joined Pirates in 2022 on a three-year contract, and he’ll step down from his head coach role upon the expiry of his contract.

WHICH TWO BAFANA BAFANA STARS IS MOENEEB JOSEPHS RECOMMENDING TO PIRATES?

With the Sea Robbers expected to undergo changes in the new season, Josephs has urged the reigning MTN8 champions to sign Polokwane City FC attacker Oswin Appollis and Stellenbosch FC left-back Fawaaz Basadien. Appollis was reportedly on the Pirates’ wishlist in the past window. However, the deal could not materialise.

“If you look at Appollis and Basadien, I think they can be quality signings for Orlando Pirates, which is competing on the African continent [CAF Champions League],” Josephs said on the Soccer Beat podcast.

“If you’re going to compete at that level, you need depth, a player like Basadien who’s been consistent throughout this season. So I think he’ll be a great signing and add something to the team, he has qualities, can take set pieces, and has the engine to go up and down the flank.

“When you look at a player like Appollis, it will be a top signing if Relebohile Mofokeng gets a move to Europe, because he has to move to bigger and better things.

“So with Appollis, if we sign him, he looks very active as a 10 and as a false 9. He is effective on the right and left side, but we can use him in the 10 position where Kabelo Dlamini and Patrick Maswanganyi play. The signing will add a little more competition in that position.”
