Nabi sends message to Pirates, Sundowns, & Stellenbosch

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has congratulated Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Stellenbosch FC on their remarkable performances in the CAF inter-clubs competitions.

The three South African teams made history by booking spots in the semi-finals of continental football. This is the first time that three SA teams have been in the last four of prestigious CAF tournaments.

Pirates and Sundowns secured places in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League, while Stellenbosch are in the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Brazilians claimed a 1-0 victory on aggregate in the two-legged quarter-final against Esperance, whereas Pirates beat MC Alger with the same scoreline.

On the other hand, Stellies caused a massive upset with a 1-0 win over the Confederation Cup defending champions Zamalek. The two sides played to a goalless draw at Cape Town Stadium before the Winelands-based side won the away tie at Cairo International Stadium.

Nabi has congratulated the three Betway Premiership teams, stating that their achievements will improve the level of football in the country.

“I want to say congratulations to Sundowns, Pirates, and Stellenbosch. In the semi-final of the Champions League, we have two teams from South Africa,” Nabi said.

“This will improve the level of football in South Africa. I think the level will also improve in the next season because the competition among teams is stronger than before.

“I want to say thank you to my colleagues, Jose Riveiro, Miguel Cardoso, and Steve Barker. They deserve to be in this situation, but I feel a little sad because Sundowns beat my Tunisian team Esperance, but honestly, they deserve to be in the semi-final. We have to continue like that for the benefit of South African football.”

Meanwhile, the highly-rated coach is preparing his troops to face Masandawana in the Nedbank Cup semi-final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Kickoff is at 18h00.
