Nabi discloses trophy timeline discussion with Chiefs management

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared that he has been in talks with the club’s management regarding the timeline for the Soweto giants’ quest to compete for trophies.
The Tunisian coach was speaking on Thursday during the Nedbank Cup semi-final pre-match press conference at the Nedbank headquarters in Sandton.
Amakhosi will face off against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday, aiming for a spot in the final. They are eager to end a nine-year trophy drought. The match will take place at the Brazilians’ backyard Loftus Versfeld Stadium at 6 PM.
Nabi was asked if he was under pressure, given that a loss on Sunday would mean Chiefs end the season without a trophy.
He emphasised that he’s still building the team but acknowledged the importance of winning the trophy for the Phefeni Glamour Boys even during the rebuilding process.
He then revealed that in the discussions he had with management, he indicated a two to three-year timeframe for the team to strongly compete in all competitions, including the CAF Champions League.

NABI SAYS THE PROCESS TO BUILD THE TEAM WILL TAKE TWO TO THREE YEARS
“This is our first year [at Chiefs] and we’re trying to build our team, but when we get an opportunity like this one where we’re in the semi-final and we can win the trophy, we can try to do that for the fans and board,” said Nabi.
“So, we will always play to win a trophy because we are in a big team like Kaizer Chiefs. So, every season, and every competition you play, you have to try to win.
“I think when we discussed with the board, we said we are in the process of two to three years to build our team, but after that, then we can play for the African Cup, league or every competition to win.
“But for now, we are in the process, as I said. But if we get an opportunity to win the trophy, we will play to win it, and if we do that, it will be amazing for us. It would give us more confidence to play for the board, fans, team and for us coaches.
“If we don’t win it, we have to continue to work.”
