Former Chiefs coach warns Amakhosi against signing Lorch and Mbule

Former Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Farouk Khan has warned Amakhosi against signing two Mamelodi Sundowns stars, Thembinkosi Lorch and Sipho Mbule.

The duo is facing an uncertain future at Sundowns after they were sent on loan to search for regular game time. Lorch was loaned out to Wydad Casablanca during the January transfer window for the remainder of the 2024/25 season in Morocco.

The highly-rated attacker has seemingly regained his top form at Wydad under head coach Rulani Mokwena. Lorch has featured in nine appearances across all competitions and scored one goal.

Meanwhile, the 31-year-old also bagged the Player of the Month award for March in the Botola Pro 1 for his impressive performances.

On the other hand, Mbule joined Sekhukhune United on a season-long loan from Sundowns at the start of the current campaign.

The talented midfielder has played 16 matches in all competitions for Babina Noko, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

FAROUK KHAN SAYS MBULE AND LORCH LACK DISCIPLINE FOR CHIEFS

With the Chiefs continuing to rebuild under Nasreddine Nabi, Farouk Khan’s assessment of Mbule and Lorch has been blunt: He believes they lack the right discipline to play for the Soweto giants.

“What’s important is for Chiefs to maintain the team spirit, I wouldn’t advise them to sign Mbule and Lorch even if they were free [agents] to be honest,” Farouk Khan told Soccer Beat when asked if Chiefs should sign the duo.

“The two players come with a lot of baggage, they are good players, but what they do off the field it’s going to influence what happens on the field.

“Chiefs once signed Khama Billiat from Sundowns, and he’s a very good player, but he came with a lot of off-field problems. So when I look at this, I don’t just look at the technical and tactical ability, I also look at the mentality and discipline because what makes a great team is players who are disciplined and don’t party.”

In the January window, the former Orlando Pirates star Lorch was heavily linked with the Glamour Boys, while fans and pundits have also advised the club to sign Mbule.
