Jose Mourinho’s former assistant coach Baltermar Brito looks set for another stint in Zimbabwe, this time at Nyasha Mushekwi’s ex-club.

Brito last coached Highlanders FC in Zimbabwe’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League during the 2023 season.

The Portuguese mentor who had a successful career along with former Chelsea FC boss Jose Mourinho, has now now been linked with Caps United FC.

Caps United FC, is one of the so-called big three of Zimbabwean football along with Dynamos FC and Highlanders FC. After seven games in the 2025 season, the Green Machine as Caps United is fondly known has been at the receiving end, forcing club owner to run the ruler over current coach Llyod Chitembwe.

The Harare based side has lost five times, with one win and one draw as they sit on 17th position in the 18-team league. In 2023 Brito got Highlanders FC and the Zimbabwean league buzzing due to his solid style. As a result, he has been identified as Caps United FC’s solution.

Zambian Ian Bakala has also been linked with the troubled Zimbabwean giants. Bakala is the current head coach of the Zambia Under-17 men’s national team. Caps United, is where Mushekwi made his name before swapping to the Betway Premiership in 2010.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns striker has been one of Caps United’s benefactors in recent times. In 2019, Mushekwi bought the club luxury bus worthy R 2.2 million.

He bought the bus for his former team as a token of appreciation for the part they played in his development. Mushekwi has often weighed in with financial assistance, soccer boots and training kits for the club.

It remains to be seen if Caps United’s bid to lure Brito sails through. They are hoping to uplift themselves after a poor start to the season.
