Wydad Casablanca star Mohamed Rayhi has paid an emotional tribute to the head coach Rulani Mokwena following the recent decision on the future of the SA coach.

On Tuesday, the Moroccan giants made an announcement, stating that Mokwena will be on ‘special’ leave for the remaining three matches in the Botola Pro 1 before stepping down from his coaching position at the end of the season.

The highly-rated mentor has been with Wydad for only one season, having joined from Mamelodi Sundowns in July 2024. Mokwena has faced much criticism from Wydad supporters and the media in Morocco after playing six successive draws in the league.

As a result of the inconsistent run of form, the Red Castle could fail to qualify for the CAF Champions League next season as they’re sitting third on the league table with 45 points in 27 matches. They are six points adrift of second-placed AS FAR.

Meanwhile, Wydad will also finish the 2024/25 season without silverware after losing out on the league title and the two domestic trophies.

With the former Orlando Pirates coach not going to sit on the bench again for Wydad, Mohamed Rayhi has thanked Mokwena for making him a better player.

“I can’t thank you enough for what you have done for me. How you treated me, how you made me a better person and a better player,” the talented forward said on Instagram.

“You are an amazing human being and an amazing coach. You made a lot of things better at Wydad, something that people from outside don’t know.

“Thank you for everything, and I wish you all the best in the future. I also want to thank the staff for their amazing effort. You deserve the best.”

Under Rulani Mokwena at Wydad Casablanca, the goal-poacher has featured in 27 matches in all competitions and scored 12 goals.
