Stellenbosch FC head coach Steve Barker has provided the latest update on the injuries of Ashley Cupido and Lehlohonolo Mojela.

The duo have been on the sidelines for the Cape Winelands-based outfit due to their respective injuries.

Cupido succumbed to his injury setback in their Betway Premiership 1-0 win over AmaZulu FC a fortnight ago.

The 23-year-old forward only lasted 10 minutes in the league encounter against Usuthu before he was replaced by the Amajita international, Langelihle Phili.

Cupido joined Stellenbosch in August last year from Cape Town Spurs FC in a swap deal that saw Mervin Boji move to the Urban Warriors.

He featured in over 36 matches for Stellies in all competitions this season. So far, he has scored five goals and provided three assists.

Meanwhile, Mojela started the 2024/25 campaign on a high note, having joined Stellies from TS Galaxy. The 28-year-old forward played nine games for the Barker-coached side across all competitions before he suffered a knee injury earlier this season.

In those nine outings, he managed to score six goals for the ‘Maroon Army’. His last game was against Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 final, where they lost 3-1 to the Buccaneers in October last year. He scored Stellies’ goal in the Bucs game.

WHAT STEVE BARKER SAID ABOUTย  ASHLEY CUPIDO AND LEHLOHONOLO MOJELA’S SETBACKS

“Well, I’m hopeful that both will make an appearance before the end of the season. They are both back in training, if not full training,” said Barker.

“It looks positive that maybe by the second-to-last game of the season against SuperSport United, they will be available for some minutes.

“But we won’t force it either; we will have to be patient, you know. Then there will be the likes of two new signings at the end of the season, especially in Mojela’s case, because he has been out for quite some time.”
