Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane has reflected on his return to the field after a seven-month injury layoff.
The 35-year-old suffered an Achilles tendon injury during the AFCON qualifier against Congo in October last year. He recently returned during the 3-0 win against Richards Bay FC in the Betway Premiership.
His presence was also felt when Masandawana secured the all-important 1-1 draw against Al Ahly in Egypt, which booked them a spot in this yearโs CAF Champions League Final.
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS CAPTAIN DELIGHTED TO BE FINALLY BACK IN ACTION
“It feels good [to be back] because it’s the moment that I have been working hard to be part of the team,โ said Zwane.
โFor me to be part of the team makes me happy, and I can see my brothers [teammates] are also happy for me.
โThe excitement is there, and you can see how we are playing; we are doing well and winning games. The brotherhood and team spirit are more important,โ he said.

THEMBA ZWANE EXPECTING A TOUGH MATCH FROM STELLENBOSCH FC ON SUNDAY
Sundowns will take on Stellenbosch in a Betway Premiership match at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Sunday. A win for Masandawana will secure them an eighth straight league title.
“Honestly, I am expecting a tough game because they were playing in the Confederation Cup and doing well,โ he said regarding the fixture.
โBut even with us, we have been doing well. We have been scoring more goals and creating more chances. So it’s going to be an exciting game to watch.”
Zwane has tipped his former teammate Lesiba Nku as one of the players to look out for from the ‘Stellies’ team.
“I would say Lesiba Nku. He is a quality player. But to be honest, they have a lot of quality players. They are a hardworking team, so I can’t single out one player and say this is tougher than the other one. I feel like as a team collectively, they are stronger.โ
