Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns wrapped up yet another title-winning season in style following a 2-0 win against Magesi FC at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.

Sundowns’ dominance this season has seen them clinch their eighth title in succession. They have collected 73 points, equal to last seasonโ€™s point tally.

Masandawana have also broken their own record of the most goals scored with 65. The previous record was 56 goals scored during the 2021/22 season. With only 13 goals conceded, the Brazilians have also conceded fewer goals than any of their competitors this season.

Brazilian forward Lucas Riberio has finished the season with 16 goals and is the current Betway Premiership top goal scorer, with teammate Iqraam Rayners second with 14 and Arthur Sales on eight.

Sundowns made a few changes to the side that beat Chippa United 3-0 during midweek. Grant Kekana, Tashreeq Matthews, Thapelo Morena and Jayden Adams were all relegated to the bench. Aubrey Modiba, Arthur Sales, Neo Maema and Malibongwe Khoza came in their place.

It took just four minutes for the home side to open the scoring with a left-footed shot from the centre of the box to the bottom right corner by Ribeiro. Sundowns continued their dominance in the match, creating a few scoring chances.

They were eventually rewarded with a second goal 22 minutes into the match again through Ribeiroโ€™s left-footed shot from outside the box to the top left corner with a Marcelo Allende assist.

Sundowns will now shift focus to the CAF Champions League final. They will take on Egyptian side Pyramids FC at home on Saturday, 24 May, before the return league away in Cairo on Sunday, 1 June 2025.
