Nabi reveals key talks with Chiefs chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed that he held crucial talks with the club chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
The Tunisian coach recently concluded his first full season with Amakhosi after taking over the coaching role in July 2024, joining the club from Moroccan side AS FAR.
Nabi’s appointment was met with a lot of optimism by the Chiefs supporters, as they were looking to return to their glory days.
The highly-rated mentor ended Chiefs’ ten-year trophy drought after clinching the 2025 Nedbank Cup title a few weeks ago. In the final, the Glamour Boys defeated arch rivals Orlando Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium to lift a major trophy for the first time since 2014.
However, Chiefs experienced an underwhelming run in the Betway Premiership. They finished the 2024/25 season in ninth place with just 32 points, missing out on a top-eight spot and thus failing to qualify for next season’s MTN8.
This poor league form was largely due to a dire nine-match winless streak, with their last victory coming in March against Magesi FC. With teams below them still having games in hand, the Soweto giants could even drop further down the table to a 10th-place finish.
WHAT NABI SAID ABOUT HIS CONVERSATION WITH KAIZER MOTAUNG
After clinching the Nedbank Cup, Nabi had stated his commitment to Chiefs was conditional on the club acquiring quality new players.
Speaking after the recent goalless draw against Polokwane City FC at FNB Stadium, Nabi disclosed that his discussion with the chairman centred on the recruitment of new talent for next season.
Asked if there was common ground between himself and Chiefs regarding his demands for quality new players, Nabi replied: “On Friday, we had a conversation with the chairman, and we know exactly what needs to be done in terms of players.
“I will not say how many or which kind of players we need, but the recruitment department is working very hard, and everyone knows the needs for the team.
“The contact has started already, and we hope that we will get what we need, but we are sure that the team is going to improve a lot.”
