Cavin Johnson makes bold claim about Chiefs

Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Cavin Johnson has made a bold claim about the Soweto giants after they missed out on a top-eight finish in the Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi played to a goalless draw against Polokwane City FC at FNB Stadium this past weekend, which marked a disappointing end to their 2024/25 season.

Chiefs finished the campaign in ninth position on the league table after going nine games without claiming a victory. The Glamour Boys endured a dismal run of form as they last tasted a win at the beginning of March with a 1-0 victory over Magesi FC.

After that, Chiefs went on to suffer defeats against Richards Bay FC, Golden Arrows, Marumo Gallants, and Orlando Pirates. They played draws against Cape Town City FC, TS Galaxy, Chippa United, Sekhukhune United, and Polokwane City.

Meanwhile, Chiefs had high hopes of improving from their 10th-place finish in the previous season. In July 2024, the Naturena-based side appointed Nasreddine Nabi as the head coach to return the club to its glory days.

Although the Tunisian mentor ended Chiefs’ trophy drought after winning the Nedbank Cup, the experienced coach finished in the bottom half of the table.

As a result, Cavin Johnson has argued that Chiefs shouldnโ€™t have missed out on the top eight with the squad they have and the new technical team.

Interestingly, Johnson was at the helm on an interim basis when the Soweto outfit finished 10th on the Premiership table in the 2023/34 season.

โ€œAs far as Kaizer Chiefs are concerned, I do believe that with the signings they made this season and the fact that they brought a new technical team, they should have done better than what they have done, than what they achieved this season,โ€ said johnson at the La Liga event in Melrose Arch most recently.
