Sekhukhune United firm on Keletso Makgalwa amidst Nabi interest
Sekhukhune United have taken a firm stance on the future of their star winger, Keletso Makgalwa, amidst interest from Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi.
According to a Sekhukhune player, the former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker bid farewell to his Babina Noko teammates, sparking speculation about an imminent departure.
However, sources within the Limpopo-based club have clarified that they intend to build their team around Makgalwa for the upcoming season. The 28-year-old player joined Sekhukhune on a three-year deal from Upington City FC after mutually parting ways with Sundowns.
His career at Sundowns was largely characterised by loan spells at various clubs, including Maritzburg United, Moroka Swallows, TS Galaxy, and All Stars.
It was during the 2023/24 campaign, at Upington City FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, that Makgalwa truly found his stride, netting 11 goals and providing seven assists for a total of 18 goal contributions. Sekhukhune snapped him up on the back of the impressive season.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED HOLDING FIRM ON MAKGALWA
In his first season with Babina Noko, Makgalwa has continued to shine. He was instrumental in their fourth-place finish, scoring six goals and contributing an impressive 11 assists across all competitions.
This outstanding form has seen him attract significant attention, with reports suggesting even Chiefs coach was seen speaking to the winger after their 1-1 draw.
However, Sekhukhune United are holding firm. The club is keen to retain their key players and views Makgalwa as central to their future plans. This strong stance comes after a previous attempt at a deal between Chiefs and Sekhukhune did not materialise, leading to Elias Mokwana’s move to Esperance of Tunisia last season.
With Makgalwa’s contract still having significant time remaining, Sekhukhune’s stance sends a clear message to interested parties.
