Thabiso Monyane breaks silence on Pirates departure

Talented right-back Thabiso Monyane has broken his silence following his departure from Orlando Pirates after 13 years of marriage.

The Buccaneers revealed four days ago that they will part ways with the 25-year-old Monyane and fellow defender Paseka Mako. Their contracts, set to conclude in June, will not be extended as the club prepares for the upcoming 2025/26 PSL season.

Monyane played over 90 games for the ‘Sea Robbers’, having been promoted to the senior team in July 2019 from the club’s reserve side.

And despite being considered one of Pirates’ promising right-backs, Monyane’s time at the club was increasingly hampered by injuries, which significantly limited his ability to secure a regular spot.

However, during his tenure with the Buccaneers, the academy graduate still managed to contribute to a period of success, lifting six trophies: four MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup trophies.

Monyane expressed his appreciation to the Pirates’ management for having faith in him throughout his time at the club. He also revealed how the Soweto giants have shaped his football career since he was a 12-year-old boy.

“As I close this chapter of my life, I’m filled with a mix of emotions – sadness to leave behind the only football home I’ve ever known, but also excitement for the new journey ahead,” said Monyane in a statement.

“Joining the institution at 12 to 25, this club has been my everything. I’ve grown as a player, but more importantly, as a person. I’m grateful for the trophies we’ve won, the memories we’ve created, and the friendships that will last a lifetime.

“To the fans, thank you for your unwavering support. Your cheers, chants, constructive criticism and passion fueled me every step of the way. I’ll never forget the electric atmosphere you created on match days.

“To the chairman, staff, technical team, and players, past and present, thank you for your hard work, dedication, and camaraderie. You’ve all played a role in shaping me into the player I am today.

“As I embark on my new journey, I’ll carry the lessons, values, and memories from this club with me always. I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunity to represent this amazing club and be part of its history. Thank you, Orlando Pirates, for an unforgettable 13 years.”

The player is now free to join any team of his choice after being handed his clearance from the ‘Happy People’.

A few days ago, FARPost reported that Monyane had been previously linked with a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.
