‘There’s no better professional than him’ – Broos on Pirates star

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos speaking during the press conference

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has spoken highly of an Orlando Pirates star following the two international friendly matches.

Last Friday, Bafana Bafana played to a 0-0 draw with Tanzania at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. They then secured a comfortable 2-0 win against Mozambique on Tuesday night at the same venue.

During this international window, Broos did not select Mamelodi Sundowns players as they are currently in the USA for the FIFA Club World Cup.

He utilised this opportunity to integrate several new players into the national team, and after the two games, he expressed satisfaction with their performances.

The only Bafana familiar faces in the squad were Nkosinathi Sibisi, Ricardo Goss, Nyiko Mobbie, Sipho Chaine, Fawaaz Basadien, Thalente Mbatha, Oswin Appollis and Relebohile Mofokeng.

Following the victory over the Mambas on Tuesday, Broos praised the leadership and professionalism of Buccaneers defender Sibisi, who served as captain for the night.

BROOS SAYS IT WAS THE RIGHT CHOICE TO MAKE SIBISI CAPTAIN

“Leadership is not about always having a big mouth,” said Broos when asked about leadership in the national team.

“Sometimes you have captains who talk a lot, but those two, Ronwen [Williams] and Sibisi, they are not guys who talk a lot. But just the way they are there gives them respect from everybody.

“Ronwen is Ronwen, but maybe nobody saw a captain in Sibisi. He’s been with us from the first day I’ve been here. I know this guy, and there’s no better professional than him.

“And because he’s like that and the attitude he has, he has respect from his players. You see that, you don’t hear him [talking too much], ask him, he was here with us for ten days, you can see [his presence as a captain].

“And today [Tuesday] also, it was the right choice to make him the captain, and it was because we wanted to have two teams since he didn’t play on Friday.

“I wanted to play him because of [Mbekezeli] Mbokazi, a 19-year-old in his first [game for Bafana]. He [Mbokazi] felt good because Sibisi was there. So, again, I made the right choice.”
