AmaZulu FC’s transfer talks to land Upington City FC star Bokang Mokwena for the upcoming Betway Premiership season have collapsed.
The KZN-based side is searching for quality players to bolster their squad for the 2025/26 campaign. In the previous season, AmaZulu finished in the top eight on the log standings to qualify for the 2025 MTN8.
Usuthu showed signs of improvement under head coach Arthur Zwane, who took over the sole coaching role early this year.
Initially, Zwane arrived at AmaZulu from Kaizer Chiefs as the co-coach alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi. He assumed the head coach job after Vilakazi resigned in February.
In a bid to build a formidable side that can compete for trophies, AmaZulu approached Upington for the services of Bokang Mokwena.
The talented winger has been one of the consistent players for Upington after scoring 12 goals in 29 matches in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last campaign.
Mokwena has been with Bafana Ba Gucci for two seasons after signing in July 2023 from the now-defunct Uthongathi FC.
WHY AMAZULU AND UPINGTON CITY TALKS ON MOKWENA COLLAPSED

In his first season with the Northern Cape-based outfit, the 24-year-old formed a great combination with Keletso Makgalwa.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker has since gone on to join Sekhukhune United at the start of last season. AmaZulu made an attempt to sign Mokwena; however, the deal could not go through after the two clubs couldn’t agree on a transfer fee.
It remains to be seen whether the Premiership side will come back with an improved offer to secure the skilful attacker.
Meanwhile, AmaZulu have also signed Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Darren Johnson on a free transfer from Chippa United, as previously reported by FARPost.
Johnson’s signing came after the club decided against renewing the contract of experienced goalkeeper Veli Mothwa.
